It’s Mobilegeddon – But don’t Forget these 5 SEO Fundamentals

Its_Mobilegeddon__But_dont_Forget_these_5_SEO_FundamentalsEveryone at this stage must be aware of Google’s newest algorithm update ‘Mobilegeddon’ (the newest algorithm update enforcing websites to be mobile optimised).

While companies cannot avoid the update, it is important that attention is paid to other elements of SEO. Search engines serve millions of users per day looking for answers to their questions – you want to make sure your website is ranking as high up in the search results as possible so your site is seen in this highly competitive market.

So, with Google’s algorithm update, you will have to ensure that your website is indeed mobile friendly, but you need to do this in conjunction with other elements of SEO.

Here are 5 fundamentals that should be followed, that will help your company website to rank better in the eyes of Google and therefore increase visitors to your site.

  1. Mobile Optimisation

Your site has got to be mobile optimised. If not, Google will penalise your website and this will result in low ranking, and therefore, low search visibility. Nowadays, most websites will be mobile responsive, however this does not mean the site is optimised, so make sure your images render correctly and the content disperses attractively. Additionally, you need to make sure the speed is optimised for mobile use. The faster your pages load the better user experience will be and google will give you credit for that!

  1. Upload New Content Regularly

Relative and informative content is a huge contributor to SEO. Ensure that you are regularly posting new content, as often as possible. Make sure the content you are posting is applicable to your target audience and focus on your keywords. Aim for a new piece of content to be uploaded at least once a week and you’ll step up the ranks pretty quickly.

  1. Shareable Content

Whether it’s a blog post or an infographic, make sure your content is informative, original and enticing thus increasing the chances of the reader sharing it. If the content is share-worthy, it will increase brand awareness, drive traffic to your site and your google ranking will improve.

Try to keep an eye on those people sharing your content. If it is a case that they fit your ideal customer criteria, engage with them and try to qualify their interest. If indeed there is a potential sales opportunity, hand the conversation over to your sales team so that they progress it further and convert the Sales qualified lead into a close/won deal!

  1. Site Navigation

Optimising your site navigation will allow users to find what they want easily and in just a few clicks. In addition to improving your navigational menus, why not add a search bar/tool? Google rewards those sites that put user friendliness first.

  1. Link building

Basically, the more relevant external links a website has directed to it, the more popular Google will judge that website to be, and the higher that site will rank for relevant search terms. (Remember that if the external links are not of good quality and not relevant to your business, Google can also penalise a website and push your websites rankings down!) Link building ties in very nicely with shareable content. If users like what you say, they’ll share it, and you may be lucky enough that they will link your content from their websites. Posting on discussions related to your market is a great way to generate links to your website. Not only for brand awareness, but it will also increase visitors to your site.

While ensuring your website is mobile optimised is now necessary in Google’s eyes, it is important that you don’t neglect the other SEO fundamentals. Think about it this way, once all websites have become mobile friendly, google will then look at all the other elements of SEO and how well sites are performing in this regard in order to rank them – and you will want to make sure all areas are covered in order to rank the highest place possible.
